Around the world, documenting people and places
Documentary photography has shaped my career for more than twenty-five years. It has taken me into refugee camps, remote mountain communities, bustling cities and places rarely visited by tourists. Rather than searching for dramatic events, I am drawn to the moments that reveal something truthful about everyday life. My aim is to create photographs that respect the people I meet while inviting viewers to observe and connect with lives that may be very different from their own.
Having travelled and worked in more than ninety countries, I have learnt that every destination has its own rhythm, traditions and way of seeing the world. From the streets of Havana and the deserts of Oman to the mountains of Kyrgyzstan and villages in Africa, every journey has challenged my assumptions and influenced the way I photograph. These images are not intended as travel guides; they are personal observations of culture, humanity and place.
People remain at the heart of almost everything I photograph. Whether meeting someone for only a few seconds or spending days earning their trust, I try to create images that feel honest rather than staged. I am interested in expression, gesture and atmosphere, looking beyond appearances to capture the emotion, dignity and individuality that make every encounter unique.
Many of the photographs featured in this collection have gone on to become exhibition pieces, award-winning images and Fine Art Prints. Although they were created as documentary photographs, they are selected for their ability to stand alone as works of art, inviting different interpretations each time they are viewed. They are a reminder that the most powerful photographs often begin as unplanned moments encountered while exploring the world with curiosity and an open mind.
