A night at Trona Pinnacles

The Trona Pinnacles feel like another planet. Rising out of the California desert like the remains of an ancient civilisation, these strange limestone towers have been used in countless sci-fi films over the years, but nothing prepares you for seeing them in person. I drove out there alone during a five day road trip across the California desert. There’s something cinematic about the isolation of the place. You feel completely disconnected from the modern world. As the light changes throughout the day, the pinnacles almost seem to transform with it, shifting from soft pale tones into something darker and more dramatic by sunset. This film is a reflection on that journey and the strange beauty of the desert, a place that feels both empty and alive at the same time. Filmed and photographed in May 2022
